Title: Thoughts On A New Format

As usual, just some ideas to discuss.

1/ We move to two separate systems to suit each sport. Clubs can completely opt out of billiards if they so wish leaving one smaller league. That may mean that players can play for more than one club, where their own club hasn't entered a billiards team, but if your club has entered by snooker and billiards leagues, you are bound to that club for both.

2/ Given that snooker is by far the more popular game, would promotion and relegation be worth looking at? Two divisions with the top team from Division 2 replacing the bottom team from Division 1. I'll have a play with the fixture list to see if it is possible with the given venues and expected participants, i.e. everyone except HPSC 2nd and Unsworth South 2nd.

Watch out for the glory hunters wanting to play for the better teams as well as their own.

It sounds a bit of a feat mark, but not impossible. I think everyone should have a think of how to make the league better/ fresher, get more players playing and not having some 2nd teams dropping out as they cant raise a 2nd team

That's why I made two caveats Dave - firstly that it is simply an idea and secondly that it relies on the ability to plan the fixtures accordingly and cater for two teams in the same division.

That's without putting it to dd as a proposal - as we've seen with the extra second division fixtures idea, he's receptive to ideas that will take the league on or at least keep the interest going. Don't forget that when he started out on this post 30 years ago, everyone put two teams in both and that was that; I'd wager HPSC would just play snooker given the opportunity.

David has done a great job running the league and I think only a fool would dispute that. When I started in the league about 15 years ago, Heaton Park had two teams at both and obviously so did the Legion, same with Crumpsall. You've lost 7 teams there, 1 at P/W Cons with them scrapping the billiards team next season, 2 at Unsworth unless we hear better news at a league meeting. If a shakeup was to take place, we could extend an invite to Rileys and Whitefield Snooker club to play snooker only.

As I added at the start of this thread, it is simply ideas and David must be both in agreement and able/prepared to implement them.
