Description: billiards second div

D/D says we may be having only a 4 man team second division billiards to help struggling teams keep going.......will be tough on stute libs who easily get 6 ...

Rob - June 26, 2007 04:03 PM (GMT)
why dont they put 2 teams in? sure both clubs could get 8 players

If it runs at 4 this year, we can spend the season figuring out a better way forward for next season.

Joe,

I think billiards should stay as a six man team.
Either that or you have three teams. The only problem with that is finding the venues for the third teams. You cannot do that with only one night - in the bowls league, any club with three teams has to have their third team play their home games on Friday evenings rather than the usual Wednesday. Unless clubs with one billiards team were prepared to host matches and become the home venue for said third teams, then I cannot see it happening. Certainly at the Stute we've got around 14 or 15 billiards players so 8 slots to fill would mean a lot of keen billiards players miss out.

You could move to one billiards league for not the coming season but the one after with an opt out for any clubs not wanting to field billiards teams or only wanting to field one. With two teams at a club, you can always get the fixture list generated to accommodate them and it would no doubt lead to an improvement in the standard of the second division players and perhaps throw up a few surprises for the first teams.

Just my ten cents ;)

well its up to us what we want.... lets vote...4 or 6 ... c teams or same b team...those who cant keep it up... will have to stay behind

In saying that, I can only play snooker next season, I am off to college from September and this takes my 2nd night out up... But personally I think maybe a 4 man or 5 man team would suit billiards. MAYBE, you look at 4 or 5 man snooker teams, that would enable most teams to have a strong 2nd side.. Were f@@@@d against the stute then eh...

the first temas would still have 6 players as per usual, that leaves you 9 players or so to make up a B and C team, same as at the libs. just a suggestion.

doesn't really affect crumpsall as you didnt have a 2nd division billiards team last year anyway

Whilst we always made it, we struggled to get 6 or 7 billiards players last year, as was the same for snooker with i think only 7 or 8 registered for the first team. I just thought if it was 4 or 5, then you wouldnt be worrying about turning up somewhere with a man short. The only downside is that which 4 or 5 do you pick.. I know i have a joke about the Stutastars, but who would you drop to get into a 4 man team.

Three teams for a club is impossible unless we are going to play all c team games on a Tuesday, which goes against the traditional "Thursdayness" of the league. In which division would you put the two teams? I think you've got to go ahead with what DD has suggested for this season and then discuss it in more detail in time for next season. If every club sent delegates to the league meetings, that would probably help too.
